# 6. Activating Positioning

> Measure the locator installation positions, apply them to the plan, and configure and apply a cluster to activate positioning.

> [!NOTE]
>
> In this step, only perform hardware selection, position placement, and cluster setup.
> Do not use any other areas or buttons not described in this manual.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Menus used in this step**\\
>
> * **To register and place locators on this floor** · Use **\[Edit Configuration]** at the top right of the screen. Proceed in the order Hardware → Position Placement → Cluster.
> (All registered locators must be powered on with Wi-Fi connected. The hardware selection list and the cluster connection list are based on each locator's power and connection state,
> so before you start, confirm on-site that the LEDs on all 4 locators are lit and the bottom LED is blue (server connected).)
> * **To fix only locator coordinates on a floor that is already 'Deployment Complete'** · Use **\[Position Adjustment]** at the top right.
> See [4) Adjusting Coordinates Only After Deployment Complete](#4-adjusting-coordinates-only-after-deployment-complete).

Open the \[Plan Placement · Wireless Design] menu, select the building and floor, and click the \[Edit Configuration] button at the top right of the screen. Clicking \[Edit Configuration] opens a 3-step setup wizard on the right: Hardware → Position Placement → Cluster.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **If you did not register a plan**\\
>
> Floors without a plan from [3. Space Registration](/en/locator/spaces) show a blank screen instead of a plan on the placement screen.
> The procedure is the same as with a plan: place the locators anywhere on the blank screen, then **enter the measured X, Y, and Z values directly in the 'Placed' list**.
> Set the reference locator to (0, 0) and enter the values so that the coordinate differences between locators match the measured distances.

## 1) Hardware Selection

![Hardware selection: locator list with the online toggle ON and the registered-on-this-floor list](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ/images/geospace/6.placement-deploy-hardware.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ\&q=85\&s=0f63eadac2b910e5c08dd138686f18ac)

1. Click a locator in the hardware selection list to add it to the 'Registered on this floor' list.

2. Confirm the added locators appear in the 'Registered on this floor' list, then click \[Next] to continue.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Only locators that meet all of the following appear in the list.
>
> 1. Locators with [Hardware Registration](/en/locator/hardware) complete
> 2. Locators not yet placed on this floor's plan
> 3. Locators shown while the **'Online' switch** to the right of the search box in the hardware selection list is on

>
> Locators may be excluded from the list while the 'Online' switch is off, so keep it on during the placement step.

> [!NOTE]

> **If locators are missing after resetting the configuration**\\
>
> Clicking the red trash icon at the right end of the step bar (1 Hardware · 2 Placement · 3 Cluster) resets this floor's configuration and empties the list of locators registered to this floor.
> The reset does not remove the locators' [Hardware Registration](/en/locator/hardware); they remain in the \[Hardware Management] list, which also shows which floor each locator is placed on.
> Do not provision them again thinking they are gone. Click the locators in the hardware selection list to add them to this floor again.

## 2) Position Placement

> [!NOTE]
>
> Re-check the space dimensions, the installation position measured on-site for each locator,
> and the plan orientation from [1. Pre-Installation Preparation](/en/locator/site-survey).

![Position placement screen: ① placement method, ② awaiting placement and placed lists](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ/images/geospace/6.placement-locator-place.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ\&q=85\&s=120ccd28c62a6f628429a59a7c1b8433)

**(1) Check the placement method**

On the right side of the screen, confirm the placement method is set to \[Manual Placement].

* Automatic placement is still in preparation; do not use it.

**(2) Place on the plan**

Select locators from the 'Awaiting placement' list and place them on the plan. Drag a locator to its actual installation spot on the plan, or select it in the list and click the corresponding spot on the plan. Placed locators move to the 'Placed' list, and the coordinates of each placement appear automatically.

* Following the reference direction set during pre-installation preparation, the bottom-left corner becomes the coordinate reference point (conceptually 0, 0).
* X increases to the right and Y increases toward the 'top edge', so all coordinates inside the space should be positive.

Compare the displayed locator coordinates with the [distances measured during pre-installation preparation](/en/locator/site-survey#3-on-site-measurement) and correct the coordinates to match the measured distances. For example, the difference between the X coordinates of two locators facing each other should equal the measured horizontal distance between them.

* Placing locators at the plan's corners is not the point in itself. What matters is entering the measured distances between locators as coordinates from the reference point, and placing them so the result matches the actual installation spots on the plan.

* If, after adjusting the coordinates to the measured values, the locator positions shown on the plan are visibly off from the actual installation spots, the plan scale is wrong. In that case, go back to [3. Space Registration](/en/locator/spaces#3-registering-and-setting-up-the-floor-plan-optional), register an accurate plan, and redo the two-point scale setting.

Real spaces are rarely perfect rectangles, so the distances between locators may differ. In that case, fine-tune each locator's coordinates to match the measured values as closely as possible. Whether positioning actually works is confirmed in [8. Verification](/en/locator/verify).

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Offset**\\
>
> On-screen coordinates are read against the registered plan image, not the actual space.
> So if the plan shows more than the exact space, including wall thickness or margins,
> placing against the actual space may show the reference corner as (0.4, 0.25) rather than (0, 0).
> The difference between the conceptual reference point and the plan coordinates is called the offset.
> What matters is that the distances between locator coordinates match the actual measured distances.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Click the pencil icon at the top right of the list to rename locators placed on the plan.
> The default is the S/N (e.g., `GP26CAN500-00043`); renaming to something that identifies the
> installation spot makes later coordinate checks easier.
>
> * The name applies only to this floor's plan placement; the device record in [Hardware Management](/en/locator/hardware) is unchanged.

**(3) Enter the installation height**

![Placement complete screen: default installation height and the x, y, z values in the placed list](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ/images/geospace/6.placement-complete-example.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ\&q=85\&s=bb49125597de66bbebccbf98a544f6a0)

Enter the installation height in **Default installation height (m)** above the 'Placed' list and click \[Apply to All] to apply the same value to every locator.

* If some locators are at a different height, edit only the **z (m)** value in those rows.
* The image above shows an example where each locator's height differed slightly, so the z values were edited individually.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You can also change the plan or the reference direction you set initially. For example, you could rotate
> 90° counterclockwise so the former right wall becomes the 'top edge'. In that case, replace the plan image
> and re-set the reference point (0, 0) to match the new reference direction, which means redoing all the steps above.
>
> ![Comparison showing the reference corner moving from A to D when the reference direction is rotated 90 degrees in the same store](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/ejvlLb-qx5RrYDZL/images/geospace/6.placement-coord-north-rotated-en.svg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ejvlLb-qx5RrYDZL\&q=85\&s=1b6e46e3c84b1ae665e120401fb01f7b)

After entering all locator coordinates, click \[Next] to move to the cluster setup step.

## 3) Cluster

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Before you start**\\
>
> All placed locators must be **connected**.
> Only connected locators are registered in the cluster, so locators shown in gray (disconnected) on screen are left out.
> Check power and the Wi-Fi connection, and proceed once the bottom LED is blue.

Clustering groups multiple locators into one transmission group (a cluster); locators only transmit positioning signals once clustering is complete.

Locators in the same cluster synchronize their clocks against the signal sent by the master locator.
Positioning is computed from the arrival-time differences of each locator's signal at the mobile device,
so only signals from clock-synchronized locators can be used together in one computation.

**(1) Check the registered devices**

![Registered device check: locator list on the cluster target card with connection status](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ/images/geospace/6.placement-cluster-connection-list.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ\&q=85\&s=72e168f063028e45a73911907f16ff0f)

Entering the cluster tab shows the list of registered locators.
The list shows the connection status of each locator placed on this floor.

* Confirm every locator placed on this floor appears in the list, and check each locator's power on-site.
* A notice at the top of the list reads: "Only devices connected within the last minute are included in the cluster. Disconnected devices are shown in gray and excluded."
* If any locator shows as disconnected (gray), check its power and Wi-Fi connection and get it connected before proceeding.
If you proceed with it disconnected, that locator is left out of the cluster and is not used for positioning.
* Click **\[Next]** to move to cluster configuration.

**(2) Cluster configuration**

Cluster configuration has two stages. First, create groups in **\[Automatic Cluster Configuration]** by entering a reference distance.
Then, in **\[Manual Cluster Configuration]**, review the generated groups and set the session ID and the master locator.
(See [0. Overview](/en/locator/overview#3-terminology) for master locator (INP) and session ID.)

> [!CAUTION]
>
> The master locator and session ID values are provided separately, by email or otherwise, when the service is delivered.
> Do not choose them yourself; enter the values you were given.
> If you have not received them, contact [support@ones1ght.com](mailto:support@ones1ght.com).

**① Automatic cluster configuration**

The system builds a first-pass cluster based on the distance you enter.

![Automatic cluster configuration: ① measuring a 14.85 m diagonal on the plan, ② base type, cluster configuration distance 15, run](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ/images/geospace/6.placement-cluster-auto-config.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ\&q=85\&s=17a82e6df08142e614df6a7f5d301bbc)

Click the **tape measure (distance measurement)** button at the top right of the plan, then click two diagonally opposite locators in turn. Press **Enter** to end measurement and display the distance between the two points on the plan. (e.g., 14.85 m)

Confirm **Base type** is set to **\[Device Placement Based]**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> \[Distance Data Based] under Base type is still in preparation; do not use it.
> The steps in this document are written for \[Device Placement Based].

In **\[Cluster Configuration Distance (m)]**, enter a value slightly larger than the measured diagonal. (e.g., measured 14.85 m → enter 15)

* Clicking **\[Recommend]** fills in a value with margin automatically.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Cluster configuration distance**\\
>
> The value used to group the placed locators into one cluster. Locators within the set distance
> are grouped into one cluster. To group 4 locators into one cluster, base the value on the distance
> between the two farthest locators (the diagonal), and enter slightly more than the measured
> distance so every locator is safely included.

Finally, click **\[Run Automatic Cluster Configuration]** to open the **\[Manual Cluster Configuration]** screen.

**② Manual cluster configuration**

Now review the result of **\[Automatic Cluster Configuration]** and finalize it.

![Manual cluster configuration: cluster tree (session ID, P master marker, pencil, reset edits, save)](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ/images/geospace/6.placement-cluster-config.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jSUe4ZC1WxNcJHaZ\&q=85\&s=d9a730bc8d7a7243380642f43c6dcde0)

Enter the value you were given in the **Session ID** field on the group row.

Click the **pencil icon** in the cluster tree to set the master locator. The master locator cannot be chosen arbitrarily; you must set the locator you were told in advance.

* Selecting a locator in the list marks it with a **P**, designating it as the master locator.
* Only one master locator can be set per cluster.

Other main buttons are as follows.

| Button · item | Location | Function |
| - | - | - |
| \[+] | Right end of the tab row at the top of the cluster tree | ·Adds a new P group (tab) with a different session ID·Not used in the basic setup (4 locators · 1 cluster) |
| \[+] | Group row (next to the session ID) | ·Adds a cluster within the same group·Not used in the basic setup |
| Checkbox | Group row · cluster row | ·Whether to show on the plan |
| Trash · ✕ | Group row · cluster row | ·Delete. Takes effect after clicking \[Save] |
| \[Save] | Top right of the cluster tree | ·Applies your edits. Click after each change (once after entering the session ID, once after setting the master) |
| \[Reset Edits] | Top right of the cluster tree | ·Reverts to the last saved state. Only cancels edits made since the last save |
| \[Delete All] | Top right of the cluster configuration | ·Deletes the entire cluster configuration. Start again from \[Automatic Cluster Configuration] |

**(3) Apply**

Click **\[Apply to Devices]** to push the settings to the locators. If there are unsaved changes, you are prompted to save first.

* If a disconnected-locator warning appears, that locator is left out of the cluster. Check its power and Wi-Fi connection, get it connected, then apply again.
* After applying, click **\[Done]**.
* Whether positioning actually works is confirmed in [8. Verification](/en/locator/verify).

After applying to devices, the status shows as follows.

| Status | Meaning | Action |
| - | - | - |
| Deployment Complete | ·Settings have been pushed to the locators | ·Move on to the next step |
| Not Applied | ·The configuration is saved but not yet pushed | ·Run \[Apply to Devices] |
| Configuration Failed | ·Push failed on some locators (the floor status shows 'Configuration check required') | ·Check locator power and connection, then re-apply·If it keeps failing, judge by actual positioning in [8. Verification](/en/locator/verify) |

> [!NOTE]
>
> For the first apply, registration is only complete once the status is **'Deployment Complete'**.
> If it stays at 'Not Applied' or 'Configuration check required', check power and the Wi-Fi connection and apply again.
> Whether positioning actually works is confirmed in [8. Verification](/en/locator/verify).

> [!NOTE]
>
> **If you changed locators after applying the cluster**\\
>
> Applying the cluster registers with the server that "these locators are the positioning area of this space".
> Once the status is 'Deployment Complete', positioning keeps working afterwards even if Wi-Fi drops or the LED blinks.
> However, if the locator configuration changes, you must register again.
>
> * A locator was re-registered to another space (floor)
> * Another locator was placed in or swapped into this space
>
> Reconnect power and Wi-Fi, then go through (1) check the connection status → (2) check the cluster configuration → (3) \[Apply to Devices] → \[Done] again.
> If the grouping changed, start again from \[Automatic Cluster Configuration] in (2) and set the session ID and master again.
> If you are only fixing coordinates, do not re-apply; see [4) Adjusting Coordinates Only After Deployment Complete](#4-adjusting-coordinates-only-after-deployment-complete).

## 4) Adjusting Coordinates Only After Deployment Complete

> [!NOTE]
>
> Position adjustment is for fine-tuning only, when the cluster configuration does not change. If you added or replaced a locator or moved one to another floor,
> re-apply from \[Edit Configuration] → the Cluster tab, as described in 'If you changed locators after applying the cluster' under 3) Cluster.

To fix only locator coordinates after the cluster is 'Deployment Complete', use **\[Position Adjustment]** instead of \[Edit Configuration].
The cluster settings and the UWB session are kept, so positioning is not interrupted and there is no need to apply the cluster again.

![Plan Placement · Wireless Design screen: the Position Adjustment button at the top right in the Deployment Complete state](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/Wf6UKFhI34T5ZSLD/images/geospace/6.placement-adjust-entry.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=Wf6UKFhI34T5ZSLD\&q=85\&s=f0a41c1ad0768c6ba91216ea7ccc39bc)

1. In \[Plan Placement · Wireless Design], select the building and floor and click **\[Position Adjustment]** at the top right of the screen.
The right panel switches to 'Position Adjustment Mode · Fine-tuning only'.

![Position Adjustment Mode: x, y, z inputs in the placed list, the fine-tuning-only notice, and the push position settings to changed devices button](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/Wf6UKFhI34T5ZSLD/images/geospace/6.placement-adjust-panel.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=Wf6UKFhI34T5ZSLD\&q=85\&s=aefb44052cf4d67cbfd5834921601809)

2. In the 'Placed' list, edit each locator's **x (m) · y (m) · z (m)** values directly, or drag the locator on the plan.
Default installation height (m) and \[Apply to All] work the same way. **Changes are saved as soon as you make them** ('Saved' appears at the top of the panel).

3. If the locators are connected to Wi-Fi (bottom LED blue), click **\[Push Position Settings to Changed Devices]** at the bottom of the panel
to send the coordinates (x · y · z) to the devices as well. The button is disabled when there are no changes.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **If a locator's Wi-Fi is disconnected**\\
>
> The push is delivered over the locator's Wi-Fi connection, so it does not work while the locator is disconnected.
> The coordinates are already saved in step 2, so you can finish with \[Exit] without pushing.

4. Click **\[Exit]** to leave adjustment mode.
