# 4. On-Site Locator Installation

> Install the locators at the designated positions on-site and connect power.

## 1) On-Site Locator Installation

1. **Label the front**

![Front and back of the AN-500 — copying the last 4 digits of the MAC address from the back label onto a front label](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/E2whs2uAjcPfu5dJ/images/geospace/4.install-anchor-front-label-en.svg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=E2whs2uAjcPfu5dJ\&q=85\&s=eadabbb70505bd65ba401cdcec2df80d)

* Read the last 4 digits of the UWB MAC address on the back label and write them on the front of the locator with masking tape.
* The back label is not visible after installation, so label before installing.
The S/N and UWB MAC address on the back label are used in [5. Hardware Registration](/en/locator/hardware),
so photograph the label before installing.
* This makes each corner's locator easy to identify, and is used in [6. Activating Positioning](/en/locator/placement)
to match corners to locators during plan placement.
* If the device ships with identification already attached to the front, use the existing marking.

2. **Mount the locators**

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Installation height** \\
>
> So that signals sent from the locators to phones below are not blocked by people or fixtures, we **recommend an installation height of 3 m** (if height is limited by site conditions, **minimum 2 m**), and align all 4 locators at the same height.

* Install the locators in a rectangle at the four corners of the detection area.
* There are two installation methods: wall mounting and tripod mounting.
The front orientation, the cable port facing down, and the metal clearance rule apply equally to both.

> [!CAUTION]
>
> Metal objects can interfere with positioning signals. Do not install locators close to metal objects (e.g., shelves, pillars, refrigeration units).
> Keep at least 0.5 m between each locator and any metal object.

**Wall mounting**

* Fix the locator to the wall at a recommended height of 3 m (if height is limited by site conditions, minimum 2 m) from the floor with double-sided tape.
* Install vertically so the LED window faces the inside of the positioning area and the cable port faces down.
* Install with the back of the locator (the S/N label side) against the wall.
* When installing at a wall corner, place it as close to the corner as possible.
* For rented spaces, confirm in advance whether the walls may be marked.

**Tripod mounting**

* Installs without damaging walls.
* Even when placing on a desk, keep the locator at 2 m or higher.

**Precautions**: When installing the locators, confirm that all 4 criteria below are met.

Metal Clearance (0.5 m+)](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/E2whs2uAjcPfu5dJ/images/geospace/1.starter-kit-install-ox-en.svg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=E2whs2uAjcPfu5dJ\&q=85\&s=35da0a62cb05a65f852c0db85cfbe999)

3. **Connect power**

* Connect USB-C power (5V/3A) to each locator. Secure cables running across the floor with paper tape to prevent tripping and disconnection.
* When power is connected, the two LEDs on the front light up white, then change color as the device boots.
There is one LED at the top and one at the bottom: the top LED shows UWB initialization status,
and the bottom LED shows boot, network, server connection, and data transmission status.
See the image above and tables below for the meaning of each color.

**Top LED**

| Indicator | Meaning |
| - | - |
| White on | ·Initial boot |
| Yellow blinking | ·Device initializing |
| Green on | ·Device initialized |
| Purple (magenta) blinking | ·UWB initialization failed |

**Bottom LED**

| Indicator | Meaning |
| - | - |
| White on | ·Initial boot |
| White blinking | ·FW update during initial boot |
| Red on | ·Device error |
| Red blinking (for 2 s) | ·Rebooting |
| Yellow on | ·USB (uart) connected |
| Purple (magenta) · light blue (cyan) alternating blinking | ·Waiting for network IP assignment |
| Light blue blinking | ·Network IP assigned |
| Blue on | ·Server connected |
| Blue blinking | ·Transmitting data |
| Purple only blinking | ·Factory reset in progress (shown only while \[Factory Reset] is running) |

> [!NOTE]
>
> **What you see on-site**\\
>
> * Before hardware registration (Wi-Fi setup): top green, bottom yellow
> * A device that had Wi-Fi set up before: the bottom LED blinks purple and light blue alternately (waiting for an IP from the saved Wi-Fi)
> * After hardware registration: top green, bottom blue (server connected)
>
> Both states before registration are normal; the bottom LED turns blue once you set the on-site Wi-Fi in [5. Hardware Registration](/en/locator/hardware).

* Whether positioning actually works is confirmed in [8. Verification](/en/locator/verify), after plan placement and cluster setup are complete.

## Checklist

> [!NOTE]
>
> Once all items below are confirmed, you can move on to the next step.
>
> | # | Item | Check |
> | - | - | :-: |
> | 1 | The last 4 digits of the MAC address are written on the front of each locator. | ☐ |
> | 2 | The back label (S/N · UWB MAC) is photographed. | ☐ |
> | 3 | The LEDs on all 4 installed locators are lit. (Top LED: green, bottom LED: yellow. A locator that had Wi-Fi set up before may blink purple and light blue on the bottom, which is also normal) | ☐ |
