# 1. Before You Install

> Site survey, deciding anchor placement, gathering supplies, preparing a floor plan — everything to finish before you carry hardware to the site.

What eats up the most time on install day is not the hardware, it is **"there is no outlet · there is no floor plan · nobody decided where these go"**.
Finish the preparation on this page before you go on site, and the install is done in half a day.

## 1. Site survey

Measure and record the following with a tape measure or laser distance meter.

<Tip>
  If your tape measure is too short, mark the floor with tape and measure in sections. **An error of about ± 10 cm is fine** —
  you do not need centimeter precision; recording to the nearest 10 cm is enough.

  **Checkpoint —** You are done once you have the numbers written down: "○ m wide × ○ m deep, mounting height ○ m".

## 2. Decide anchor placement

Place **at least four** anchors at the **four corners of a rectangle** that surrounds the detection area.

* Clustering them on one side, or placing them close to a straight line, greatly increases position error.
* **Stay away from metal (steel, iron, aluminum)** — the rule is simply **do not mount directly onto** metal shelving, steel columns or refrigeration units. Use an arm's length (about 50 cm) between the anchor and the metal as your rule of thumb.
* For each mounting point, check **where the nearest power outlet is**. Whether the power cable (3 m recommended) reaches decides whether you can actually mount there.

  **Checkpoint —** You are done once the floor plan (or a sketch) shows the four anchor spots plus the power route for each one.

## 3. What to bring

## 4. Prepare the floor plan

You need a **floor plan image (PNG · JPG)** to upload to GeoSpace.

* It must match the real layout of the space.
* A span whose measured length you know (a wall, a column, etc.) must be identifiable on the plan, otherwise you cannot set the scale.

<Tip>
  **You do not need a real floor plan.** If the store is a simple rectangle, **drawing one rectangle in PowerPoint or Excel and
  saving it as PNG** is enough — four visible walls are all you need to set the scale. Just keep two things in mind while you draw.

  1. **Draw it at the measured width:depth ratio** (for example, 12:7 for a 12 m × 7 m store). If the ratio is off, one wall ends up misaligned with the plan.
  2. **Decide which direction counts as "up" in the store (true north), and draw the plan with that direction at the top.** Mark the entrance and
     write the measured width and depth on the drawing as text. The "bottom-left" corner of this plan becomes the coordinate origin (0, 0) in step 4.
  3. **Fill the image with the room** (no outer margin) and entering coordinates gets simpler — you will not have to add an offset in step 5.
     (If you know a design tool such as Figma, feel free to draw it there.)
