# Space Management

> The positioning workspace where you edit zones and points on the store plan and map initiatives to them.

> [!NOTE]
>
> This page is available to Managers and above. (Permission `manage`: Owner or Manager)

## 1) Overview

Space Management is the positioning workspace where you draw and edit zones and points directly on the store plan.

| Term | Description |
| - | - |
| Zone | ·A polygonal area drawn on the plan·Synced to GeoSpace as is, and used as the target for analytics and initiatives |
| Point | ·A specific spot in the store, such as a standing sign, sampling table, or endcap·A classification defined in OneS1ght |

## 2) Before You Start

Space Management works against the plan and locators registered in GeoSpace.
All the items below must be complete before you can edit zones and points on your actual store plan.

| Item | Document |
| - | - |
| Building and floors registered, plan scale set | [3. Space Registration](/en/locator/spaces) |
| Locators installed and coordinates applied | [6. Activating Positioning](/en/locator/placement) |
| Partner key issued and registered in OneS1ght | [7. Positioning Data Integration](/en/locator/connect) |

> [!CAUTION]
>
> If these are not complete, buildings and floors may not appear, or you may see
> 'Building without linked plan' or 'Positioning space connection error'. Check the
> integration status in [Settings · Positioning Integration](/en/console/positioning-data).

## 4) Creating a Zone

Click \[Edit floor plan] to activate edit mode, then proceed.

![Zone creation flow: the Draw Zone tool, shape list, and the Create new zone popup](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/5u3BErG_mEDOJqyL/images/geospace/zone-draw.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=5u3BErG_mEDOJqyL\&q=85\&s=aa4dcc79dfa92a4ce72f0f3eb9a79e99)

1. Click \[Draw Zone].

2. Pick a shape, then choose where to create the zone on the plan canvas and drag to draw it.
   * For irregular shapes pick Freehand; to keep things aligned, turn on Snap.
   * For a freehand shape, place 3 or more points along the area you want,
then double-click at the last point or click the first point to close the area.
Closing it opens the same 'Create new zone' popup as in step 3.

3. In the 'Create new zone' popup, enter a zone name (e.g., Entrance, Checkout, A-1) and click \[Create].\

Zone names cannot be duplicated on the same floor.

![Screen with the created zone selected: the zone and its real size on the plan, and the Properties panel with basic info and zone event settings](https://mintcdn.com/onecheck/5u3BErG_mEDOJqyL/images/geospace/zone-properties.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=5u3BErG_mEDOJqyL\&q=85\&s=8fd7395ee2d92a4ba65508f8a7814a87)

4. **Confirm the created zone**
   * Confirm the new zone appears on the plan and in the layer list.
The canvas shows the zone's real size (e.g., 2.0 m × 1.2 m), so you can check its extent.
   * To select a zone, the editing tool on the left must be the Select tool.
Clicking the zone opens the Properties panel on the right.
   * Zones are created with the default type Aisle (`aisle`); change it to match the purpose.
   * The zone event settings work with their defaults.
See [5) SDK Area Detection](/en/console/areas#5-sdk-area-detection) for what each field means.

> [!NOTE]
>
> A selected zone can be adjusted with the mouse.
>
> * Select inside the zone and drag to move it.
> * Drag the corner handles to change its size and shape.
>
> Moving or resizing activates the green \[Save] button at the top of the menu.

> [!CAUTION]
>
> Edits such as moving and resizing only reach GeoSpace (the positioning space) once you click \[Save (N)] at the top.
> Until saved, they stay 'Unapplied' on this screen only; the number in parentheses is the count of unapplied changes.

## 5) SDK Area Detection

Selecting a zone shows the zone event settings in the Properties panel on the right.
These are the criteria the app SDK uses to detect entering and exiting the zone, passed through the [SDK `Zone` fields](/en/developers/sdk/reference/ios#zone).

| Console field | Description | SDK field |
| - | - | - |
| Detect events | ·Whether this zone is used for event detection | — |
| Movement allowed while confirming (m) | ·If coordinates jump farther than this while an entry is being confirmed, counting restarts (usually 3) | `inDist` |
| Confirm detections | ·An entry is confirmed after this many consecutive in-zone coordinates (1 or more) | `inCount` |
| Detection interval (s) | ·If the gap between coordinates during confirmation exceeds this, counting restarts (0 = engine default) | `inCountInterval` |
| Exit grace (s) | ·An exit is confirmed only after this much time has passed since leaving the zone or losing the signal (0 = engine default) | `outPeriod` |
| Dwell alert (s) | ·A dwell event fires once after this much time inside the zone (blank = none) | — |
| Priority when overlapping | ·The order the engine evaluates overlapping zones (1 or more) | `priority` |
| Send enter/exit alerts | ·Whether enter and exit events are delivered to the app (turning this off also disables dwell events) | `callInout` |

> [!NOTE]
>
> The defaults work as they are.
> If entries are slow to confirm, increase Movement allowed while confirming;
> if enter and exit keep alternating at the boundary, increase Exit grace.

> [!CAUTION]
>
> If a zone is too small, positioning error can cause repeated enter and exit events.
> Define zones around where a person stands and stays, not around a single shelf.

**Rule link** (The rule link feature is currently in preparation.)

In the selection target's rule mapping panel, link the initiative to run for that zone.
If there is nothing to link, "No active actions to link" appears; activate an initiative first in [Initiatives](/en/console/agent/action-agents).

## 6) Connection Status

| Status | Meaning | Action |
| - | - | - |
| Building without linked plan | ·The building is not yet linked to a plan | ·Shows automatically once building registration is complete·Check whether [3. Space Registration](/en/locator/spaces) is complete |
| Positioning space connection error | ·The positioning space server could not be reached | ·Click \[Retry]·If it keeps happening, contact your administrator |
